  • SIYB project handed over to VCCI as a National Programme by 1 May 2004:

    After more than 5 years of successful collaboration between Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and International Labour Organization (ILO) in implementing the SIYB project in Viet Nam, the national SIYB programme was handed over to VCCI on the 1st of May 2004. VCCI now has the full institutional and technical capacity to sustain the national SIYB programme and to continue to develop the market for SIYB training in Viet Nam.

    A business plan has been developed for the future financial sustainability of the national programme and Sida and the ILO will continue to follow VCCI's implementation of SIYB for the next three years. More importantly, the programme has now generated significant interest from the Government of Viet Nam who now regards SIYB as a key national tool for employment creation and poverty reduction. An annual grant is thus being provided by the Government to the national SIYB programme.

     

  • SIYB Project Evaluation conferences in HCMC on 9 April and Hanoi on 22 April:

    On 9 April, a final SIYB evaluation conference was organized in HCMC for the Southern and the Mekong Delta Regions and on 22 April a similar conference was held in Ha Noi for the Northern region. The seminars addressed the outreach, achievements & impacts of the SIYB programme over the last five years, the potential for further developing the  market for SIYB training in Viet Nam as well as the sustainability of the national SIYB programme, which will be coordinated by VCCI in the future.

    Many trainers and organizations from the large national network of SIYB partner organizations and trainers participated actively in these conferences as did many government departments who play an active role in promoting the SIYB programme in the provinces  The Government of Sweden was represented by its Ambassador in Hanoi, Mdm Anna Lindstedt, and the ILO by its Deputy Director in the Bangkok Office Mdm Pongsri Phantumvanit and the ILO Country Director for Viet Nam Mdm RoseMarie Greve. Mr. Hoang Van Dung, Vice-President of VCCI co-chaired both meetings. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Phuc, Director General of the Agency for Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises (ASMED) of MPI also attended the meeting in Hanoi. 

     

  • Certification of Master Trainers

    12 new Master Trainers have been certified and received their global SIYB master trainer certificates in the final conferences in HCMC and Hanoi on 9 and 22 April 2004. After 18 months of intensive capacity building programme the new MTs join the family of the 15 existing MTs bringing the total number of certified MTs in Viet Nam to 27. It is expected that another 4 MTs will be certified within 2004.

  • Workshop on Cooperation in Improving Support to SMEs

    On 6 April in Hanoi, the SIYB programme organized a workshop with the General Department of Vocational Training, the Social Policy Bank and the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development to discuss and explore more effective ways to support the development of SMEs in Viet Nam. On 8 April, a similar workshop was also organized in HCMC for the South. In these two workshops, MOUs were issued, discussed and signed by parties.
