SIYB :: Master Trainers

SIYB Master Trainers (MTs) are very important for the sustainability and quality of the national SIYB programme. MTs train and assist existing SIYB trainers from Partner Organisations as well as new trainers from organisations who wish to join the programme. MTs deliver training of trainers beyond project duration and the impact and sustainability of the programme therefore depend on active MTs.

The roles and responsibilities of MTs are many. First, a MT must be able to develop a marketing strategy, market the SIYB programme to potential partner organisations and then select new appropriate partner organisations. Second, a MT must be able to assess training needs of potential SIYB trainers, then select new trainers, organise and develop session plans for SIYB seminars. Third, a MT has to be able to deliver SIYB training of trainers successfully. Finally, a MT has to be able to monitor the SIYB programme implementation by the new partner organisations, continuously provide support to the organisation and provide feedback to the ILO.

MTs are identified, selected and trained by the ILO programme support unit of the national SIYB programme. MTs are identified within the group of regular SIYB trainers and are selected based on excellent training skills, commitment and high delivery rates of workshops to entrepreneurs. Most have an academic background and/or substantial experience in adult education and in small business management. Strict selection criteria and certification procedures are applied to ensure continuous programme quality. MTs can only be trained and certified by the ILO.

Between 2000 and 2002, 16 SIYB trainers have gone through the MT programme and participated in five Master Trainer workshops hosted by the ILO. To date 15 SIYB trainers have successfully been certified as SIYB Master Trainers.

The new MTIT Capacity Building Programme 2002 - 2004 has also been launched in November, 2002 with the first MTIT workshop organized in Hanoi from 4-8 November, 2002.
